Hello,as you might have gathered my name's Larry and I am onthe other side of the world. I am/have been building a fairly radically modified (for Aus) Rapier over the last 14 years. Recently bought a second one which had a 302 windsor and c4 auto in.Was going to make 1 good from 2 but can't see a very rare for here car go to scrap. anyways a few pictures... A nice straight rust free car!! The Holbay spec engine that never turned That looks better in there. Hope them Dinner plates and calipers for a 2 ton car can make all that powaaar and them torques pull up. Yours in Rootesering, Larry p.s pics of other cars to follow. Comments welcome

here's another piccy of the "nice" car. It's a side project in a mate's workshop. Now,this js the car I bought with v8 in. It is getting turned into a club/trackday car.The engine from this one was stuck in white car with 5 speed manual behind. pictures not very good and prob too big but me being, as Clarkson the XL c*ck would say, "A prossie murdering Lorryist" I'm not good with technology. inside the car Now I have done this and this The tunnel mods on this look to have been done by blind freddy so tunnel will be removed and hopefullly replaced with something from a donor with a suitable tunnel for planned engine. My mate who owns the workshop will build me a 347cu in motor suitable for either a supercharger or a couple of turbos (should be fun)

G'day Larry from another Aussie,
Interesting cars, they should go pretty well when finished. As you say Fastback Rapiers are rare over here and it would be a shame to crush one. What are you doing with the front springs and struts to cope with the extra weight?
If you have no use for that Holbay spec lump I could probably take it off your hands; it would work well in my Hunter ;D
What part of Oz are you in?
Cheers, Vic (in Canberra)

Larry,
Thanks, actually I already have the alloy head, strombergs, manifolds (inlet + exhaust) etc needed to convert my current iron-head Hunter into an alloy head - everything except the camshaft. The current motor is getting pretty tired and I was thinking of building an alloy head version to replace it out of a spare iron head motor I got from a wreck. However, recently a mate gave me another iron head motor with only 13,000 k on it. It has flat top pistons and a waggott cam and supposedly goes quite well so I'll probably stick with it for a while.
As well as the Hunter I have a Series 3 Sunbeam Alpine.
I know the Camden area, I lived in Tahmoor for about 5 years as a kid in the late 1950's/early 60's.
Are you planning to register the white car for regular doad use?
Cheers, Vic

Vic,
yeah the white car is being fully engineered for the road. Will have chassis connectors. Already has Bilstein inserts in front struts. Will sort spring rates once engine in permanently. The front brakes are VT commodore slotted discs and BA calipers (A slightly modded kit from Hoppers Stoppers.) Diff is a shortened VR 3.55:1 LSD. Only have a couple of dramas 1 being steering arms fouling on starter motor, if you know of a rack & pinion conv. that would be awesome. and ARB would go through sump so 1 will have to be made. I think I have a camshaft you can have. Will have a look tomorrow arvo
cheers, Larry

Larry,
Thanks, if you do have an alloy head cam it would give me another option to work with.
That's going to be some beast for road use.
Cheers, Vic

Vic,
Haven't had a chance to go through all my bits till today, have found a camshaft also a crank,2 strommies, a head, 2 inlet manifolds, oil pump and assorted stuff you could probably have for a pineapple. The cam needs a good clean up but all the lobes look ok.Hoping to head down to Canberra in a couple of weeks with the tribe, may try to meet you somewhere.

Larry,
Fantastic. Bring the lot and I'll give a Bradman. Let me know when you are likely to be here and we'll work something out. My direct email is vichughes165@gmail.com and my mobile number is 0412 800929 if that helps.
Don't know if it is of interest or fits in with your plans, but on Sunday 19 June we have a car show called "Battle of Waterloo" when the British and French car clubs compete to see who can get the most cars there on the day. If you are into old pommy cars it's a good thing to come to. I'll probably take my Alpine and my mate Paul may bring his Hunter 660

The battle of Waterloo sounds like a good day. Will put in a request with the minister of finance and see if we can get down for that weekend. I will try and put all these parts together this weekend. Also just wondering Vic is your sig a stab at the poms about gricey in '85 beating them at their own touring car game in an aussie taxi?(ha ha if it is)

Larry, Actually 'lemansvk' is an obscure reference to one of my other cars. I have a 1984 VK Brock Commodore, the model name is "LeMans5000" (or "LM5000"). It was called that because Brocky raced at Le Mans that year (with Larry Perkins in a Porsche) and this model commemorated that. Of course the 5000 refers to the 5 litre V8 If you go to the Brock commodores website and look under "Fact Files VC-VK) you'll find a description. The only thing wron with that description is the max speed - yes it does do 188 @5000 rpm in top but it also does 215 @ 5600 ;D www.brockcommodores.com/Attachments:

Vic, I'm super impressed with your vk. A very rare and desirable vk, would be worth a pretty penny too in the mad aussie muscle car market. Here's a picture of my not so rare VL turbo which I was going to Rally. Sold to finance the Rapiers (do miss it heaps, so much FUN) Also capable of 215km/h but at 6200 cutout on straight at Eastern Creek Larry
