Looks good and well sorted - and is more interesting than a Tiger. Not sure why PPC seem to think it's closer in size to a Cortina than an Escort though

Because it is. It was aimed at competing with the MK2 Cortina but the larger MK3 was released not long after the Avenger. I've had a MK1 Escort, the Avenger is much bigger

Yeah, the Avenger's a couple of inches shorter than my mk2 Cavalier.
Nice article, nice car. Interesting to read that it cost close to condition 1 money but still needed welding? Still got that seam at the wheelarch/sill joint, it's all to easy to bodge that. Did it mention what spring rate were back and front?
Nonetheless, a cool car.

Good write up, car looks awesome. Shame they got it wrong about the Avenger never winning anything against Escorts. Does the BTCC in 1974, 76 and 77 not count?
Edit Done a little digging and it was racing Capri's in BTCC
It did however win the 1976 Rally of Newzeland in the hands of Andrew Cowan. Now there had to be escorts in that. Right?

Even I have been won over by the charms of these lovely old cars. I just bought a very clean, 1974 Avenger Estate to replace a thoroughly nasty Triumph Stag. Not an obvious alternative for each other I'd grant you, but the work on the Snag was going to cost more than the purchse price of the Hillman. Guess who's a happy boy then? Johnno, kicking that halfwit Chamberlain's arse since 2006.
