I have found in Finland Hillman Super Minx MkIV with Perkins diesel engine. I don´t know if it is a factory fitted diesel engine, or not. I would like to hear some information about Hillman cars with Perkins diesels. I have many parts lists for Hillman cars but there are no marks of diesel engines. Has Rootes fitted Perkins diesels in Hillman Minxes? How many and when? I know that Perkins offered their own kit to get diesel-Hillman, but what did Rootes? Did Rootes made diesel Hillmans?
In Finland Hillman is nowadays very unusual car, only about 10 cars left in register. I have Minxes 1964, 1965 and a 1966 Super Minx Sport. Apparently Super Minx Sport was not sold in GB? It has 1725 engine with aluminium head.

Hi there and welcome to the forum.
These were available from new. One was featured in Practical Classics magazine some years back. I can't recall offhand whether the engines were fitted at the Rootes factory or if the cars were supplied by Rootes and the conversions done elsewhere so can't answer your specific question. Of course, it is also possible that some were unofficially converted later in the day.

Hi Universaidm4 Yes Rootes did fit the perkins 4.108 engine in the super minx. I have a perkins engine and o/drive taken out of the superminx. I have adapted a plate to the gearbox which insadently is a 'J' type from the sunbeam alpine and fitted a puegeot 106 1400 cc diesel to the box and fitted it in my 1961 series 2 hillman husky it returns 60mpg+ and performs a lot better than the old petrol engine that was in it now done well over 4.500 trouble free miles since instaled june this year Mike ps there is some pictures some where under Harry the Husky

I own an original very clean 1965 Hillman super Minx with the original Perkins diesel. These cars were very rare and I was able to contact one of the gentleman who worked in the factory and when those cars were produced and he said there were 50 that were built and shipped to South Africa. I don't know if you're looking for any kind of information any farther than that but the very original ones are extremely rare and the only other one I have found has been a complete rusted-out car in South Carolina

They were approved factory conversions. My dad has a red & black MkIV estate with a Perkins 4/108 fitted. Although he converted his in the early 1990s after he bought it with an original trashed 1725 petrol. It will be the one v8sceptre saw in Practical Classics.
