overdrive and final drive ratios

Being the new owner of a 58 Estate Wagon, I'm interested in bumping up the final drive ratio to something more freeway friendly. I would also like to add an overdrive. I intend to raise the compression for premium fuel by milling the head. Any advice on these three ideas would be appreciated.
