Hi all. First post here and wanted to say hi. Ive just bought a 1958 Husky in very good condition and it seems a lovely little car. The only thing i would like is a little more cruising ability and i was wondering how easy a 1592 or 1725 engine would fit in place of the 1390. Would i need a different gearbox, prop, suspension etc? Also i dont want to cut anything about as i would like to be able to return it to original if needs be. Thanks for any help and advice. Steve.

Hi there and welcome
Guessing your Husky is a Series 1 model (rather than the older Mk 1 which I think only lasted to 1957 . .) so presently has the 1390cc OHV engine. When the Series 3 arrived in 1963 the 1592cc engine and 'box was fitted for models intended for the American market. Therefore, can't see too much difficulty in converting yours to 1592cc or even 1725cc - would suspect that the later OD type gearbox may be a squeeze in the transmission tunnel though ?
Perhaps someone else has more experience of this upgrade

Hi Trevor. Thanks for the welcome and info. Yes its a series 1 and i find it a bit hard going when having to use the dual carraigeways taking it to shows. The 1592 would do fine if it means i could cruise around 60-65 instead of 50-55. I get in the way of lorries at that speed as well as annoy a few car drivers. If the engine and box is a straight swap ill be keeping my eyes open.

Apart from a few minor spots on the front wings and a couple of the same on the bottom of the rear corners, yes it is. Very nice underneath - the floors are as new. Amazingly it was the last owners daily driver for years and i use it every day myself. Its lived outside most of its life and still does now i have it. The worst was the interior but my wife has recovered the door and rear panels and i now need a pair of front seats as the current ones are very worn. I have the original bill of sale, all the correspondance between the dealer and the new owner, service vouchers, mot's etc etc. As brilliant as it is, i still hanker for a Singer Chamois. I had one a while ago but it was very much a project and i never had time to complete it.
