Hi all,
I've got a quick question about my indicators and sidelights before the impending MOT on Tuesday...
Where should the sidelight appear on a 1960 Humber Hawk?
On my car, when you switch the sidelights on, the small rectangular lens under the main headlight lights up...
Then, if you switch on the indicators, that same bulb then flashes white - so you get a similar effect to a brake light bulb on some cars (I believe this is called a 'double filament' bulb)
My concern is that I thought all indicators had to light up orange to pass an MOT?
Its been suggested that the sidelight has been rewired at some point to the same bulb as the indicator, and that maybe it should be part of the headlight bulb
Can any one clarify this for me please?
Thanks in advance!
Matt

The arrangement you describe (front indicators in the same white colour as sidelights) was quite common in the early 1960s. My 1963 Sunbeam Alpine has this, using a small circular combined unit - white indicators and sidelights.
Sometime after that the regulations changed to require Amber front indicators - maybe it was 1964 as the Series4 Alpine has them. Over here in Australia, if the white indicator was acceptable for registration when the car was first registered, it remains so. I can't advise what the UK MOT rules are.
Cheers, Vic
