I'll second that also.
Right now though, I'm looking for more info on the Hillman Hunter Royal. Mainly looking at Vic, the aussie Rootes god for this one as I believe it was a specification unique to Australia, although one has popped up on ebay currently. Not having anywhere to work on it though is preventing me from bidding.

Mainly looking at Vic, the aussie Rootes god for this one as I believe it was a specification unique to Australia, although one has popped up on ebay currently. Not having anywhere to work on it though is preventing me from bidding. There were two different models sold in Australia carrying the Royal badge - Royal and Royal 660. Royal spec seemed to vary a bit over the years. The 1970 one I had was mechanically identical to the base model Aussie Hunter (1725 iron head with single Stromberg) but had better interior trim. Nicer, high back seats, better door trim with faux wood capping. I think I remember it having carpet rather than rubber mats. It also had the H-with-sceptre-running-through-it badges off the Sceptre for some reason. It didn't actually have any Hillman badges on it anywhere and the plate under the bonnet said Chrysler, so I guess it was technically a Chrysler Hunter. The Royal 660 was much more desirable - fairly close to the same specification as the Sceptre, but with Hillman grille. Vic might be able to expand on this a bit.

It's the base Royal on ebay rather than the 660. Annoyingly I've found lots of info on the Royal 660, although I haven't got a chance of buying one of those lol.

Sorry I haven't got back sooner on this, I've been out of town for a couple of weeks. John McRae does a pretty good run-down of the Australian Hunter models on his website: members.bordernet.com.au/~vk5po/Hunters/Hunter%20info.htmAs Russ said, the Royal was basically an upmarket version of the standard Hunter. They certainly had better quality trim than the standard Hunters, still vinyl but more like the quality used in the Chrysler Valiant Regal model. It's very durable given half a chance, I've seen 40 year old seats that looked almost new when cleaned. (By contrast, the seats in my standard hunter ware splitting even in the back where it had hardly been sat on). Unfortunately the faux wood door cappings don't last well in the Australian sun and most look ugly by now. Mechanically Royals were identical to the standard Hunter, and they came with the standard Hunter plastic dash. As Russ said the Royal 660 was more like the Sceptre. It actually replaced the Hunter GT in Australia, back when anything with GT in the name copped a high insurance premium. The Aussie Hunter GT was itself like a Sceptre with walnut dash etc, not to be confused with with the English GT which was more basic in equipment. Unusual to see an Aussie Hunter in the UK, but I have also seen an Aussie Humber Vogue for sale over there. Stranger still, I have seen an Austin Freeway, an Aussie version of the Farina Cambridge, complete with 2.4 litre 6 cylinder based on the 4 cyl 1.6 litre B series motor. I learned to drive on an Austin Freeway www.co-oc.org/Freeway.html Cheers, Vic
