I can only speak for myself but, I seem to find that at car shows or from owners clubs there is a general feeling that anything not original is frowned upon. I have modified my car mostly in period accessories which I would probabaly have done when it was newish. eg. ford 1600E chrome rostyles, fiberglass racing vented bonnet , bullet mirrors, Mountney steering wheel etc. Does anyone else have any views on this? dodgealpine.yolasite.com

If someone has a problem with your mods it is entirely their propblem. It's your car and you can do whatever the hell you want to it

There is a general feeling from the "elite" at car shows that anything not completely standard is to be frowned upon, you can guarantee that every single one of those has paid someone else to keep their car in prime condition. This is the reason I don't attend classic car shows, those type of people anger me.

I feel I have customized it to suite me, I have completly new dash and instuments, MGF seats, Overdrive, Apline Diff, Peugeot 14" wheels, and many mods to the engine, and will shortly have a Diesel engine in it. Tough on those that dont like it, I have been told I have devalued it, So what it didnt cost a lot to start with, I enjoy it and use it Mike

I’m generally of the school that says “it’s my car, I’ll do what I like with it”. My Alpine Series 3 is pretty stock standard except for the downdraught Weber (ex Cortina) and a set of Minilite replica alloys – I claim these as period correct. Some would argue that the clock in it isn’t correct for the Series 3, but it is a Rootes clock from the same era, so I don’t care. I’ve kept it stock because it will retain more value this way. My 1969 Hunter is a different story, because it didn’t cost much and has to operate as a daily driver. It has a steering wheel from a Mazda RX7, alloy wheels from a MkIV Cortina, extractors, interior from a ‘72 Hunter with highback seats, and rectangular driving lights mounted in the grille. I have a set of twin strombergs on an iron-head manifold that will end up on it, and it may end up badged as a Singer Gazelle just to confuse the punters (Arrow-based Singers were not sold in Australia). It will also probably get a set of 14 inch aftermarket alloys from an Alfa 105 GTV when I track down some wheel nuts and clean the wheels up. I also have a boot-mounted spoiler from a car I wrecked which I’m tempted to fit. Having said all that, I would hate to see something rare and precious hacked about – like a Harrington Alpine with a Dodge Hemi in it. Have a look at this link - it will give Morris Minor purists apoplexy, but it's really well done and I like it ;D s122.photobucket.com/albums/o262/sunalp63/OddRootes/?action=view¤t=MMRodsmall.jpgCheers, Vic

Well I dont think I would go that far lemansvk love the look though - 40s chevy looks about it. Well no arguments against mods then! everyones echoed my feelings exactly. I'm all for stock cars and can admire the dedication in keeping them like that & all the admiring comments, but a car done for rallying or racing creates the same interest as well. It just seems to be the cars modded to their owners taste that get dissaproved.

Hi Guys I have at last completed the instalation of the 1.4 Citroen/ Peugeot Diesel engine to a Alpine overdrive gearbox, in my Hillman Husky. fairly straight forward job just very time consuming. It runs and performs very well, slightly more faster acceleration than petrol engine, and not any more noise than petrol. top speed 70++++ And what it was all about economy how about 62.71MPG on a tank of Diesel The photos are on the "Hillman Cars @yahoogroups.com" under 'Harry the Husky' Mike

Nice one. I'm toying with the idea of a Peugeot Mi16 lump in my Avenger at some point in the future. One of my mates is shoving a Suzuki Swift GTi Turbo lump into his Avenger. All good fun

I'm shocked you're considering the Peugeot engine, I thought they were still pulling a premium with 205/309 conversions popular. I think a diesel lump out of a mondeo would be a good transformation, cheap, easy parts access and good economy.
