I've just fitted a new 3 part clutch to my hillman hunter.Used tool to line it up & checked clutch disc fitted on gear shaft first. However much i try i cant get the gearbox back on without leaving about a 2 inch gap.the shaft is going on but it seems like not the full amount.I dont know what to do.Is it a bad idea to try & draw them together with longer bolts? any help greatly appreciated.

Simon. try the clutch lining tool back in the clutch, does it slide in smoothly, if not realine clutch plate, weight of gearbox can move it out of line, also the more you strugle with aligning the splines you can tend to bur the edge of clutch plate spline and making it even more difficult to enter, I tend to file a slight chamfer with 3 corner file on the clutch plate spline and also the gearbox input shaft spline, helps a lot. try not to pull together with longer bolts it could bend the clutch plate, which will cause clutch judder, hope it helps Mike

Another misshap I'v had is to put them together burring over the bronze bearring in the end of the crank, preventing the shaft entering.

Hi Guys I have a 1'' Dia. clutch slave cylinder. I need a little bit more stroke on the clutch release arm. is there a smaller Dia. like 7/8" fitted to another model Hillman that would fit. bolt hole centres 2&1/2" Mike
