The owner of that Husky is very much alive. He posts at autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/HillmanCars regularly. The Rootes specialist in Brisbane, Australia has a Husky with full Rapier running gear underneath, and another bloke local to me used to have a Husky with Series VI Gazelle running gear underneath. The Aussie SVI Gazelles used the 1725 alloy head Rapier-spec motor as standard so that Husky had a good turn of speed. wow!! just found this: www.dougscars.com/hillman.htmlseems this chap has put a sunbeam tiger running gear into one of these (well, a husky!) - using the tiger X-member and the ford v8!!! however, it seems beforehand he bolted in a 1725 lump too, so a hunter running gear donor and disc front end maybe?? can't ask the guy unfortunately, as unless I'm mistaken by my other rootes googling, the guy has sadly passed away? more info will have to wait til after the car club xmas piss up tonight - kev

Hi Kev, I think I met you via Ebay, were you driving a warm 100E when we met at Mc Donalds. You very kindly gave me 2 hinges that I had actually bought, in fact if I remember right you gave me the complete bonnet with hinges attached. I always remember a genuine guy and you are certainly one. Ray hi ray!! yes, I certainly do remember you!! - glad the bonnet went to a good home!! -or was it a bootlid?!? ;D the 100e is still about in the hands of another club member now - grey primer and red oxide steels! - kev

always have been kiddo.... might even get the sceptre back on the road this year if DVLA pull their fingers out.. after waiting in vain for Sid to sort out the v5 or a reciept of sale so I could claim a new one myself I finally bit the bullet and sent off for one enclosing the only piece of proof of ownership I had (the new keepers supplement) so waiting on V5.. love them hunter estates mate... loved mine to bits.. actually cried when it went (sad eh)

right - some progress!!
(it's alright this, not one of my own cars on the road, and I'm sorting someone else's!!)
managed to find a 64 gazelle being raced very local to me - it's been round the oval once, so it's pretty goosed, and I think it's final fling will be this weekend - after that the chap says I'm free to take ANY bits I need, so I'll be having the hubs for mockup work, probably the uprights, maybe the back axle can't see there being much else useful left, but if anyone else wants anything lmk??

front uprights?? at that age itll be a complete crossmember with wishbone suspension on .. grab the whole thing if its not bent and simply bolt it up under that other thing you want to modify... same with back axle to keep track similiar... in all honesty the 1542cc engine out of the gazelle isnt that bad a motor either...

must be a rootes affinity..
might be worth grabbing the steering box off the gazelle as well just incase the steering setup is different.. then I can measure up the sceptre and tell you where to mount it (as the car is probably bent to stuffery by now)
be an interesting project...

Hi Kev, if you are not using the engine and it is a 1592cc with ally head, I would be interested in the head Ray

Hi Ray when I mentioned the engine to the feller he said he's keeping the engine and box for his next banger car, so maybe it's been swapped for a pinto or such? if it is an ally headed rootes lump I will mention your need for the head, and I'm sure he'll sort you out one way or the other - he's VERY helpful!
I'll deffo be looking to se if there's any front seatbelts for rottie in it though!!!

ive got a 1725 alloy head but it needs a refurb and possibly a bitof welding as one of the seats has erosion round it...
also got a 1600 from a mk1 sceptre as well but not sure what im doing with this...
should add neither have rocker shafts/rockers etc... pretty sure they both have valves in though

I want to convert a head to unleaded, so I'd be interested in a 1600 head, I think the 1725 may be different. Ray
