Welcome! Another forum about old cars? Surely there's enough? Well, no. From experience, there's alot of 'gaps' out there, especially when it comes to Rootes products. Sure, Imps get plenty of coverage, with the excellent & well organised Imp Club. The Commer vans get a share too care of Commervanfan etc. But what of the rest? Arrow-series, Avengers, Super Minx & family.... when trying to find sources of information on cars like these it's like hitting a brick wall. So why not a forum to bring it all together under one roof? Share knowledge, experience & the joy of Rootes right here. Whether it's a 1955 Minx Californian, a '67 Super Snipe or an '82 Avenger, all welcome here.

Presumably French Chryslers allowed on here? I have many firsthand experiences of a certain reasonably well-known Chrysler 180 (which is currently undergoing a bit of a tidy up).

Well why not! It's a clear (ish!) lineage. Was the 180 not originally down to wear a Humber badge?

There was going to be a longer version of it which would be badged up as a Humber, didn't happen though. The car that did arise was badged up as all sorts - Chrysler, Simca and Talbot in various forms throughout its rather ill-fated life.

YO! I'd have said this place should cover pretty much anything up to but not including Peugeots. So all that late Talbot stuff. Might attract some rally Bumseam people that way. More the merrier

I think you're singing from the same sheet as me there Seth. The Rootes > Chrysler > Talbot connection is pretty clear. Cut-off set at start of Peugeot era. That's not to say they must never be mentioned of course, but there's plenty of chit-chat forums for Pug People

Seems reasonable to include the Simca-based cars as most of them were actually designed by the British side anyway. The Chrysler 180, Alpine, Horizon, Solara and Tagora were all Rootes designs. Not sure about the Samba - that may have been a French effort. And of course the Peugeot 309 was originally meant to be a Talbot, hence the model number that was out of sequence.

The Samba was developed from the Peugeot 104 (?), question mark because I can't remember whether I mean 4 or 5. Interesting that the 309 should have been a Talbot, I'll see it in a new light from now on! I've often wondered what Peugeot will do when they "need" the number 309 to slot into their future model line up. The time is drawing inexorably closer!!

Hello all, I married to Sniper from Retro Rides and we've a 1953 Humber Hawk tucked away in the garage awaiting a roof chop and 2 Super Snipes include a bright yella one with a Rover V8 under the bonnet, well it would be under the bonnet if we had the bonnet that is.
